CGC Video Games Grades Additional Games from the Dallas-Fort Worth Collection

CGC Video Games has graded more than half the video games in the Dallas-Fort Worth Collection — there are 317 total games eligible for the pedigree — but we want to grade them all!

In April 2024, CGC Video Games announced that it would be recognizing the Dallas-Fort Worth Collection as the first pedigree to be established by the company, beginning with a first-production sealed copy of Castlevania for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Now, CGC Video Games is proud to announce that it has certified nearly 200 games from the pedigree collection.

"The Dallas-Fort Worth Collection is one of the most remarkable groups of video games ever found," said Joseph Ross, CGC Video Games Grader. "We are thrilled to recognize this impeccable collection as the first pedigree identified by CGC Video Games."

The Dallas-Fort Worth Collection consists of more than 300 classic video games manufactured for several consoles from the Atari 7800 to the Sega CD, spanning several generations. Originally, they were part of a private collection belonging to a doctor who, in the 1950s, collected comic books and played role-playing games with his late brother. The Dallas-Fort Worth Collection was assembled by the doctor, who purchased many of the games brand new from a variety of retail stores, including classics such as Electronics Boutique, Fedco, Kay Bee Toys and Lionel Kiddie City. Many of the games remain factory sealed and still have their original price stickers, while others are complete in box.

The collection includes several stand-out Nintendo Entertainment System games, including factory-sealed first-print copies of Athena, Castlevania, Ikari Warriors, The Legend of Zelda, Metroid and Urban Champion. The collection also includes various complete-in-box NES Black Box games, nearly all of which have the first-print manuals and cartridges, matching R.O.B. posters and the original inserts (baggies, foam and Nintendo dust sleeves).

In addition, the Dallas-Fort Worth Collection also boasts an impressive lineup of factory-sealed Sega Master System, Sega Genesis and Sega CD games, including notable titles such as Castlevania: Bloodlines, Ghouls'n Ghosts, MUSHA, Phantasy Star, Power Strike and Robo Aleste. CGC Video Games has also identified a portion of the collection that includes TurboGrafx-16 and TurboGrafx-CD games. While CGC Video Games does not currently certify TurboGrafx-16 or TurboGrafx-CD games, the company has recently approved a well for those games and will be able to grade them soon.

Eventually, the collection was split up. Details about why the collection was dispersed remain a mystery. Apparently, a small group of the games were donated to a local thrift store in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, while a larger portion were sold at an estate sale. Later, the same collection began appearing in online auctions, causing a stir in the video game collecting community. Many of the games listed on eBay sold for record prices, which garnered the attention of excited collectors. For example, this Castlevania realized $90,000 on eBay before being certified by CGC Video Games as part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Collection.

CGC Video Games began certifying games with the Dallas-Fort Worth Collection pedigree in April 2024. Out of the identified 312 games in the collection, CGC Video Games has certified more than 170 individual games with the pedigree. However, there were many more games from the Dallas-Fort Worth Collection that were sold privately before the pedigree was identified. These games are still eligible for the pedigree status, and CGC Video Games will work with collectors to properly catalog and grade these exceptional collectibles. A full list of games in the Dallas-Fort Worth Collection will be posted soon.
