Sweeping the Competition: Video Games Certified by CGC Realize Top 3 Prices in 2024 Heritage Sales

It’s been a great year for CGC Video Games™! Heritage Auctions recently revealed its list of the top-selling video games of 2024, and CGC-certified video games took the top three spots!

The top-selling game on Heritage Auctions in 2024 was a sealed copy of The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1987) graded CGC 9.2 A and pedigreed to the Dallas-Fort Worth Collection, which realized $375,000 on August 23. As of December 2024, this example is the highest-graded first production copy of The Legend of Zelda ever offered in a public auction. Additionally, this CGC-certified The Legend of Zelda was part of the highly esteemed Dallas-Fort Worth Collection, a group of more than 300 classic video games in excellent condition.

Coming in second was another sealed copy of The Legend of Zelda for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1987), this one graded CGC 8.0 A. This CGC-certified example realized $288,000 on February 23 after an intense bidding war in one of Heritage’s Video Games Signature Auctions. Like the pedigreed example above, this copy of The Legend of Zelda is also a first production variant of the RPG classic.

Finally, the third top-selling game offered by Heritage Auctions in 2024 was a sealed Clay Fighter: Sculptor’s Cut for the Nintendo 64 (1998) graded CGC 9.4 A++, which realized $175,000 in an auction on November 23. Clay Fighter: Sculptor’s Cut was released shortly after the original release of Clay Fighter 63 1/3, but was only available to rent through Blockbuster, making sealed copies incredibly hard to come by.
