Sealed Clay Fighter: Sculptor's Cut Certified by CGC Turning Heads in Heritage Sale
A Blockbuster-exclusive Nintendo 64 game graded by CGC Video Games™ is blowing away the competition in an ongoing Heritage Auctions sale. The Clay Fighter: Sculptor’s Cut is just one of several dozen CGC-certified games being offered in Heritage’s Video Games Signature Auction, which is set to end on November 22-23, 2024.
Bidding had already surpassed $40,000 more than a week before the sale of the sealed Clay Fighter: Sculptor’s Cut for the Nintendo 64 (1998) graded CGC 9.4 A++ (lot 28078). Clay Fighter: Sculptor’s Cut is an enhanced version of Clay Fighter 63 1/3, the third title in the Claymation beat ’em up series (Sculptor’s Cut is the most recent game in the series). Interplay Productions was dissatisfied with Clay Fighter 63 1/3 and released Sculptor’s Cut as an improved version of the game, including new storylines, simplified menus and additional characters.
Because Clay Fighter: Sculptor’s Cut was released as a Blockbuster rental exclusive, it has become one of the rarest and most valuable games for the Nintendo 64. This CGC-certified example represents an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a factory-sealed copy of this game.
A sealed Chrono Trigger for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (1995) graded CGC 9.6 A+ (lot 28042) is also being offered in the sale. Chrono Trigger is regarded as one of the best Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs) of all time and is a key title in any Super NES collection. This particular sealed copy of Chrono Trigger is one of the finer graded examples. Because all copies of Chrono Trigger were manufactured in Mexico (where the packaging quality was lower than the US or Japan), the game’s boxes have developed significant wear over time, making this example a rare exception.
Other CGC-certified video games being offered in the auction include:
- a sealed Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (1988) graded CGC 9.6 A+ (lot 28029)
- a sealed GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64 (1997) graded CGC 9.4 A++ (lot 28080)
- a sealed Cruis’n USA for the Nintendo 64 (1996) graded CGC 9.4 A+ (lot 28079)
- a sealed Fortnite for the Microsoft Xbox One (2017) graded CGC 9.8 A++ (lot 28113)
